On August 17, we had a successful Materialise course (presentation of Dmitriy Gorlov) at the Summer School “Achievements and Applications of Contemporary Informatics, Mathematics and Physics (AACIMP)” held at the National Technical University of Ukraine “KPI” (8-20 Aug, 2001). This was the second our presentation in AACIMP (previous was at 2010). AACIMP is an annual project organized to promote science and modern technologies among youth. This year there were 73 participants, students and PhD students from 10 countries (Ukraine, USA, Turkey, Iran, Tunisia, Poland, Russia, Georgia, Germany, and Denmark. Lecturers provide the environment where the participants were able to experience the international discussions on the hot topics of contemporary science and technology. Apart from educational program, exciting leisure activities such as excursions, debates and quest, cinema club, and parties were provided for the participants.
Materialise was one of the partners who supported this school and also represented the lecture “Materialise solutions in 3d modeling and rapid prototyping for medical and engineering purposes”. This course was aimed to show the features and methods of 3D modeling based on CT and MRI imaging and future utilizing of the models for planning and CAD of medical and engineering devices. Main steps of patient specific medical devices developing and producing were described and illustrated with real cases. Innovative systems of pre- and post- operative plans, as well as future (FEA, air and liquid flow) analysis of the 3-d models were discussed during the lecture. Students were very excited and interested in the solutions provided by Materialise and started active discussion after the presentation. Some of them were already familiar with RP-technologies, some of them not. In general, it was really nice to see that we can burn out people’s interest and provide them with knowledge and material for thinking about the future career and employment, as well as the area of the researches.

Birthday… for most of us it’s a special day, on which we are trying to gather our family, close friends, people we really enjoy to spend time with, make a party and celebrate. The same is for the company:-). Anniversary is always a great event for the whole Materialise Ukraine office and truly important part of the corporate culture. It doesn’t matter how big we are. From year to year this day we spend together like one big team.
2011 Birthday party we called Materialise Multinational Day and it was dedicated to our contribution and collaboration with Materialise representatives around the world. Cuisine, program, competitions – everythingwas closely connected with cultural and national features of all countries we have the offices in to share as much information and traditions as possible.
Competitions included national dances, games, guessing the melody and many others. As prizes winners have been given money to buy something interesting on the auction at the end of the evening. Among different things everyone could buy, there were several VIP lots. Lucky teams (active in competitions and earned a lot of money) bought hand-made breakfast from our wonderful and creative Designer, sweet morning surprise from fascinating Financial Specialist, morning coffee from charming HR Account, unbelievable fire-show from our magnificent Application Engineer and fire artist and finally – lunch with our admirable General Manager.
Menu was really appetizing and varied - sushi and gaspaccho, goulash and golubtsi, French fries, chicken in Mojito sauce, etc. The challenge was at least to taste everything.
Fire show became a great adornment of the holiday and birthday cake was full of delight.
Nothing to add:-)We had fun all together getting new knowledge about the company and becoming closer to each other.

Materialise team is not only smart, but also friendly, strong and full of energy! :) Sport plays an important role in our life and the list of activities is quite long: basketball, volleyball, football, etc. Recently Materialise Basketball Team participated in the Basketball Challenge organized by EBA. It was a really hard tournament which required a lot of efforts, energy and power. Guys were doing their best and desire to win accompanied them. Other teams have been taken part in the tournament for already 3-5 years, some of them even had personal coaches. But still our guys defeated one of these highly skilled teams in a very hard match with 2 overtimes.
Also, Danyla Tkachov won a competition of Long Distance shots (from the center of the field)!
Let’s wish our team good luck next time and get ready to become real basketball fans!
P.S. The next challenge for Materialise is a Football Tournament which will take place at 4-6 of June. Our Football team will definitely participate in it and looking forward for your support !!!

Do you know any Software development company where girls make special photos (you can use your imagination) and calendars to surprise the stronger part of the office colleagues on the Army Day?
Have you ever seen a Software development company where all the men give women roses, open the door in front of them in the morning, bring them sweets and champagne, and even once a year all as one come to the office wearing suits and ties?
You think it is a dream? Maybe you are right, but in this case Materialise is the place where the dreams come true!
Hard to believe, but exactly in this way we have been celebrating the Women and Army Days.

Ukrainian IT community has yet to fully embrace the importance of “User Experience” in the field of software development. As the tendency to dedicate more time to improving user experience and usability grows, more and more conferences devoted to the topic are held in Ukraine. The most recent was UX Ukraine 2011, which took place in a hotel “Gintama” at the Kyiv Sea. Materialise Ukraine sent representatives to the conference to exchange experience with people from all over Ukraine.
The conference consisted of two parts: presentations from foreign guests, namely Dave Roth from the MISI Company ltd and Eric Reiss of the Fatdux company; and second – the imitation of a work process of a team, whose task is to prototype a site to reach the maximum quality user experience.
The attendees were split to three groups: managers, analysts and designers. Each one had separate tasks, solutions to which were grouped into a project at the end of the conference. Materialise Ukraine was represented in the team of managers and analysts. The whole process was quite educational and useful and helped to see the process of improving user experience from different angles.
We are very grateful to the organizing committee of UX Ukraine for helping the community get in touch with important trends in the IT world.
